embracing color

After being awash in shades of gray, color has finally returned to interior design in recent years. Inspired by images of nature, along with concerns about climate change and conservation, its apparent that we’d all like to bring some of nature’s vibrancy into our living spaces. (And, who doesn’t love a reminder of lounging on the beach!?!)

Several years ago, we started to develop our own unique way of bringing color into custom furniture design. Of course, we’ve always done painted or lacquered pieces; however, we wanted to have a finish that both expressed a vibrant color while allowing the natural beauty of the wood grain to show. We played with paint and dye and glazes on many different wood species before arriving at our artisan, hand-mixed blend.

Our first color was Indigo — a striated shade of denim blue. We picked it simply because we loved it. Since then we’ve gone on to create a variety of shades, from Cobalt to Teal. It seems that our clients have have the same love we do and they have used the blue colors in the projects on pieces ranging from entry consoles, nightstands, desks and dining tables.

We thought we’d share our hues of blue with you — along with some inspiration. Enjoy!
